Who we are ?

Kootu-k-kural is collective voice of Emancipation and the theatre for the disadvantaged and impoverished (a street theatre group of Pondicherry). The intention is to reach out grass root population and the slums through disseminating thought provoking ideas and alternatives to overcome the social crisis. It is working a long period of time since 1992.

Our goal :
To use theatre as a powerful media to bring in changes in the mind set of the community to obtain social justice and human liberation from all chains.

Our objectives :
• To enlistment of the Depressed Community people especially Dalits, Women and Children through alternative media.
• To enhance the social awareness among the downtrodden through highlighting social issues which are obstacles for their liberation
• To activate the spirit of liberation within the self through the exposure of various possibilities before the community to help them to relieve from the influence of present day media, and hence provide an opportunity to explore the real self, culture and identity.
• To create theatrical awareness among various sections of society especially students in Pondicherry and elsewhere.
• To help in effective implementation of socio, economic, developments Programme in Govt. and other sectors.
• To conduct theatre workshops, seminars, conferences and festivals in urban centers as well as villages.
• To form theatre groups among students in co-operation with the school and college authorities.
• To screen art films in urban and rural areas and conduct film appreciation courses.
• To start a school of arts for giving courses in theatre, cinema, painting, literature and crafts.
