Computer training – December 2011

16 12 2011

The main objective of our mission for Planete Urgence in Kootu-k-Kural association was to help young dalits to use Word, Excel and Powerpoint software. We started our 2 weeks mission on the 5th of december.

15 students attended the training (mainly boys from 15 to 22 years old).  Most of them discovered Microsoft Office software.  They were really enthousiastic and expecting tests on previous lessons to be sure that they understood  them well.

The main tasks were:

- to create/save a text document on Microsoft Word, containing a table of contents, paragraphs,  images, tables.

- to realise a Powerpoint presentation with pictures animation on their favorite  subjects.

- to use Excel to manage data and create related charts.  We illustrated the course with statistics on India environment and social problems.

The main difficulty was the communication in English but some of the students translated for us and for them. Another difficulty was the daily electrical shutdowns but we all manage to work in good condition.

We spent a great time sharing our daily meal with the students and the association staff. The students were motivated to learn and were really implicated.

For us this mission in Kootukkural was a great human experience and we thank Perumal and Lalida for their kindness and time. They make a great job in a great country.
